While still reading Esperanza Rising, we're going think more deeply about how to write a good Main Idea sentence.

  • I can understand and explain the main idea of an article, story, paragraph, etc.
  1. First, complete the Do-Now, which you can see here.
  2. Next, check out Mr. Maxim's presentation about Main Idea sentences, available to see here.

Today's assignment

  1. First, complete the "How to Write a Main Idea Sentence" worksheet. It will be printed for you in class, but you can also see it here.
  2. Next, go back to your Pixton comic from yesterday. Your task is to change the Main Idea sentence in your comic so that it looks like the type of sentences we learned how to write today. It should follow the main idea formula, which you can see more about in the presentation that's linked in the mini-lesson.

What you'll be graded on

  1. For part 1, you'll be graded on your correct completion of the worksheet.
  2. For part 2, you'll be graded on all parts of the Rubric that are on Pixton.

Need Extra Help?

  • Go back and look at all parts of the minilesson, as they will help you remember about what we learned today.
  • If you need help using Pixton, your best bet is to ask the other students at your table. Many kids in the class are very good at using Pixton, so they should be able to help with any question you have.

Finish early?
