We're learning and practicing a new concept today, main idea. Main idea is what the passage/article/reading is mostly about. It's usually one sentence that summarizes most of the ideas in what you read. 

Main idea is sometimes stated directly in the passage that you read. That is, there will be one sentence in the passage that tells you the main idea. Here's an example where the main idea is the first sentence of the paragraph.   

Sometimes, the main idea is not stated directly in the passage. That is, there is no sentence in the passage that tells you what the main idea is. You need to figure out the main idea yourself. Here's an example of that


Determine the main idea of an article.

  2. Answer the questions about main idea here.
