Objective
Explain the relationships or interactions between two or more individuals, events, ideas, or concepts in a historical, scientific, or technical text based on specific information in the text.

Mini-lesson
Mr. Maxim will walk you through several things in class today, including the newsELA website, our new informational standard, and some new vocabulary words.

Today's assignment

  1. NewsELA Questions - We're going to try something new today, and I'll need your help to get everything working. First, head over to http://www.newsela.com and create an account for yourself. That means you'll need to make your own username and password. Mr. Maxim will walk you through how to do this in class. Once you've registered, then you'll complete the assignment that's available to you at the newsELA website. Again, Mr. Maxim will show you how to do this.
  2. Vocab Words - When you finish the NewsEla assignment, you're going to look up definitions for some vocabulary words. These are words you need to know in order to fully understand our current objective. You'll use this spreadsheet to create your dictionary. You'll have to save a copy of the spreadsheet to your Google Drive before you begin to edit it.

What you'll be graded on?

  1. For the NewsELA assignment, you'll be graded on your score on the multiple choice question quiz that comes at the end of that assignment.
  2. For the vocabuary words, you'll be graded on the correctness of your definitions and sentences.

Finish early?
